Trey Johnson, Danny Balis, Ward Williams

Three former members of Sorta all have solo projects now. Johnson (below) is riding high on the strength of his melodic pop collection Mount Pelee. Balis has enjoyed healthy sales and critical acclaim for his old-school country album Too Much Living. And Williams will be in from Nashville, where he's chasing his music dreams. This All Good bill is dubbed a "song swap," so expect some nice collaborations.

Details: Thursday at 8 p.m. at All Good Cafe, 2934 Main St. $10. 214-742-5362. allgoodcafe.com.

The Uptown Bums

This punk-influenced Denton foursome is young and unbridled but has a keen sense of melody. And it should definitely find some new fans when it opens for buzzed-about headliner Vivian Girls at this show. Also featuring Dallas' True Widow. Get there early.

Details: Thursday at 9 p.m. at the Cavern, 1914 Greenville Ave. $12-$15. 214-828-1914. thecaverndallas.com.

The Paper Chase

It's your last chance to witness the live brilliance of John Congleton and the guys before they go on a European tour. They're supporting their latest release Someday This Could All Be Yours Vol. 1, a concept album about human disasters. With opening acts the Great Tyrant and Personal Victories with George Quartz.

Details: Friday at 10 p.m. at Lola's Sixth,

2736 West 6th St., Fort Worth. $10-$13. 817-877-0666. lolasfortworth.com.

Jonathan Tyler &

the Northern Lights

It's been a terrific year for this bluesy Dallas band. There's the record deal with Atlantic, the tour with Kid Rock and a set at Austin City Limits Music Festival. Check out this show, and maybe you'll hear a few songs from the upcoming record. With Bleu Edmondson, Taddy Porter and Josh Weathers.

Details: Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at House of Blues,

2200 N. Lamar St. $8.75-$30. 1-800-345-7000. ticketmaster.com.

RTB2

As much as Grady Sandlin and Ryan Thomas Becker play, they're always looking for ways to keep their sets fresh and exciting. And they have a good chunk of rock-'n'-soul material at their fingertips – they've been writing and performing together in different bands for more than a decade. With Goodwin and Oso Closo.

Details: Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Trees, 2709 Elm St. Cover TBA. 214-741-1122. myspace.com/treesdallas.
