Forever the shrewdest kids?
Dallas power-pop group Forever the Sickest Kids has thought of a unique (and business-savvy) way to follow up its successful debut album Underdog Alma Mater. Three "mini-albums" will come out in the next several months, starting with The Weekend: Friday on Nov. 17. As you might imagine, the next two volumes will be dubbed The Weekend: Saturday and Sunday. At the same time, the guys are launching their first headlining trek, the Cheap Date Tour. It hits House of Blues in Dallas on Nov. 26. Doing Good$
with their music
Future-thinking Dallas rap duo Damaged Good$ released a new single, "Dopest/Flyest," as a free download earlier this week. Find out how to get it at QuickDFW.com. The song, a smooth-as-buttah love note featuring Johnny Moog, will be on the forthcoming free (!!!) album, $pread Luv Not Germ$. Think of the record as a progressive release, with a new song coming out each month to coincide with a local charity event hosted by Damaged Good$. A brilliant and generous move, especially as we're kicking off the holiday season. Find out more about upcoming shows at myspace.com/dmgeez.
Old 97's singer Rhett Miller will once again host a concert at the Granada Theater to raise money for cystic fibrosis research. The show takes place Nov. 14, and features sets by Miller, the O's and Shibboleth. Gordon Keith hosts. Visit QuickDFW.com every weekday starting Thursday to win tickets. Find out more at cfconcertseries.com.
Inner Frequency wants win
Dallas pop band Inner Frequency has advanced to the final round of a battle-of-the-bands competition hosted by Land Shark Lager. If they win the whole thing, they get a distribution deal and a full-page advertorial feature in Rolling Stone. Find out how to vote at landsharkrocks.com, and see Inner Frequency singer Cara Young perform a solo set on Nov. 20 at Jack's Backyard.
Hourly Radio is back ...
for one song
Last year, the Britpop-flavored Dallas band the Hourly Radio called it quits after a few years of recording and touring. But it appears we haven't heard the last of the band. Its previously unreleased song "Sons & Daughters" is part of a new multimedia package that accompanies Sparrow Hall's book Two Blue Wolves. The whole project – including videos, images and songs – is available online, and part of the sales go to Alzheimer's disease research. Find out more at sparrowhall.com.
