Two horror movies face off at the box office this weekend. Which deserves the longer lines and more spirited crowds? Read on.
Hunter Hauk
Picks up right where the 2007 Halloween remake left off. Michael Myers' baby sister thinks she's killed him, but she couldn't be more wrong. Starring Tyler Mane, Scout Taylor-Compton, Sheri Moon Zombie and Malcolm McDowell. Directed by Rob Zombie. R. 101 min. The super-tall, husky, mask-wearing Michael Myers can't be stopped by bullets or knives. He's the classic horror villain who seems to walk slowly but can suddenly appear anywhere.Before Zombie (left) rebooted the franchise with his smart, psychological 2007 version, there was a series of eight films starting with the original John Carpenter classic in 1978. All except Halloween III: Season of the Witch focus on the Michael Myers story.Metacritic.com's average score for
the original Halloween is 85 (out of 100), but 2002's Halloween: Resurrection
received an
embarrassingly low 19.Jamie Lee Curtis, Donald Pleasance, Paul Rudd, Josh Hartnett, Michelle Williams, Busta Rhymes, Malcolm McDowellThere are novels, comic books, action figures (right) and fan Web sites aplenty.
'THE FINAL DESTINATION'

has the advantage?
THE VERDICT
A new cast of teens tries to cheat death after escaping a tragic racetrack accident. In 3D in select theaters. Starring Shantel VanSanten, Bobby Campo, Haley Webb and Nick Zano. Directed by David R. Ellis. R. 82 min. Wide release.The villain here is death itself, which gets rightly pissed when teenagers somehow escape its "design." It finally ends them using weapons as common as a city bus or as unorthodox as a tanning bed. Yeah, fear the reaper.The new movie is the fourth in the Final Destination series, which debuted in 2000 and has come back every three years. There've been holdover characters in a couple of the films who managed to cheat death for a while, but they don't ever seem to last long. All three previous Final Destination films scored less than 50 on Metacritic. Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr SmithIt's launched a series of novels, as well as a few comic books. {TriDown}{TriUp}
